SCIENCE HAPPENS HERE IS COMING TO FORT McMURRAY!
September 13, 2010 to November 6, 2010

THE LAST TIME YOU WERE THIS CLOSE TO SCIENCE IT TOOK
A MONTH FOR YOUR EYEBROWS TO GROW BACK!

WHAT IS SCIENCE HAPPENS HERE?
Science Happens Here is organized by Science Alberta Foundation to highlight the cool and amazing science happening in a community and the careers that make it possible.

The program has fun contests for schools and the community, opportunities to see unique science displays around town, and businesses ‘showing off’ their science and technology. The program also brings to town the coolest scientists we know, the Discovery Channel's MythBusters!

STUFF TO WATCH FOR

The MythBusters tickets on sale September 13th

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased ONLINE or in person at Guest Services in the Suncor Community Leisure Centre.

Mark your calendar for Saturday October 16th, 7:00pm at Suncor Leisure Community Centre, MacDonald Island Park.

MythBusters are here to serve and Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci are coming to Fort McMurray! The two-hour show isn't like a typical "MythBusters" episode, sorry no explosions. Rather you are up close and personal with the guys - jumbo screens will show footage of the show, while Grant and Tory talk about what happened behind the scenes to prove or disprove the myth. The guys also share their crazy antics, on-set pranks, and a few cast secrets. The second half of the show allows audience members to ask questions and get autographs.

School Contest
Show Us Your Science, Bust a Myth school contest, encourages teachers and students to test a myth, like on MythBusters, and determine if it is busted, confirmed, or requires more testing.

Complete contest details will be sent to all schools in early September. Cash prizes and tickets to the MythBusters will be awarded top entries! Click here for full details.

Community Radio Contest
The community radio contest highlights the science around us and has participants answering weekly questions about science and technology found in local industry, recreation, and households. Participants are sure to experience an "I didn't know that" moment.

Listen to Mix 103.7 FM for weekly questions. Contest Details

Businesses or anyone interested in submitting a science fact for use in the contest can do so by emailing info@sciencealberta.org

Science Arcades
Interactive digital science arcades will be around town between September and November. Test your skills with games on everything from the science in curling and hockey, to learning how to create a power grid to light up a city.
